Can You Fax Legal Size Documents

Since legal documents are the same width as letter-sized paper, most scanners can scan them. In most cases, you just need to put the paper in the scanner and scan it as a letter-sized document. The scanner should automatically detect the size of the document and scan it in full size. As for the “legal” paper which is 3 inches longer, here and there we have specifications of history that may be the answer to its origins in the history of papermaking. The committee, made up of paper industry leaders, was created with the goal of eliminating waste by standardizing paper sizes. The committee eventually decided on two commercial sizes: 17″ x 28″ and 17″ x 22″. And that`s how letters and the right sizes were born by simply folding them twice. The answer to this logical question is simple. Just like lawyers use legal tampons, as they are easier for the eyes than the supposedly shiny white paper. For professionals who need to read and write a little, it makes sense to use something easier for the eyes. There are many stories about the historical development of paper in legal format. The answers lie in the history of papermaking.

According to the American Forest and Paper Association, early paper manufacturers dipped different sizes of screens or wood-frame molds into vats of water and pulp. Although the legal paper offers a little more space, it is denied because it is “completely more uncomfortable.” This is because it does not always fit perfectly in a briefcase, backrest or filing cabinet, and drawers often need to be adjusted to fit their extra length. In addition, lawyers prefer a longer paper than taking long notes that would not normally fit on a standard-sized paper. Some modern applications seem to have evolved for these older paper sizes, and legal-sized paper has helped the hospitality industry as restaurants buy a lot of this paper as it is perfect for presenting their menus and affordable enough to replace it even on a daily basis when the menu changes or needs to be optimized. Most fax machines (which do not have two paper trays) simply divide them into two pages or reduce the text if no legal paper is placed there. If you use WinFax or Windows Fax and Scan to send, you can simply open the document on your computer, select the 8.5 x 14 paper size in the print dialog box and send it that way. (However, this assumes that the recipient`s fax machine is able to receive legal-sized faxes.) You can also resize the document to 8.5 x 11. Even before the computer replaced the typewriter as the standard desktop tool, letter-sized paper was still the most common document size.

The exception, of course, is for legal documents, including contracts, loan applications, and other legal forms. At 8.5 x 14 inches, the legal documents are the same width, but they are slightly longer than the 8.5 x 11 letter paper. So many questions come to mind, some comics ask, “If 8.5 x 14 paper is considered a `legal` size, is everything else illegal?” Will we go to jail if we use illegal paper? Will the paper police choose us and simply be shredded? Just as some parts of the world refer to a photocopier like Xerox because of the popularity of the Xerox-branded photocopier, this type of paper is often referred to as a “crazy cap” after an old popular paper brand uses a “crazy hat” or joker hat as its watermark logo. As it developed, it seemed that lawyers were simply cutting the fool`s cap in half and using the sheets for official documents. Eventually, somehow around the 1870s, a paper size called a legal or white cap appeared, which was 8 1/2 inches wide and varied in length from 13 to 16 inches. The device can automatically feed the appropriate paper size when receiving a fax by setting the paper sizes for each tray and setting the use of the tray in fax mode. If you need to scan a lot of documents, it may be a good idea to invest in a legal-sized scanner that can scan documents in one go. Scanning and reassembling a document twice only takes a few minutes, but if you need to scan hundreds of documents over the course of a year, it takes a lot of time. Can I fax a paper document in legal format to a fax machine that prints only 8.5 x 11 paper? If I did, what would happen? If your flatbed scanner is too short for a full 14-inch document, you can scan the page twice and then stitch the two images together to recreate the original document. For a legally sized document, the easiest way is to scan the top and then the bottom.

Most of the text in the middle of the document overlaps, but that`s okay. If your scanner can contain paper in a legal format, scanning the document should only be a matter of optimizing its settings. However, if you have a flatbed scanner that is only 11 inches long, you can scan it twice and use a photo editing program to connect the document together. Legal paper, as we discussed, does not get by with printers, photocopiers and fax machines. Often, you have to manually set up the device to print a legal document each time. If you are scanning legal-sized documents on an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer or most other OfficeJet Pro printers that are compatible with scanning, you can use the included HP scanning software to select the document size. Select the “Legal” size or select “Entire Scan Area” from the “Scan Size” menu. Nevertheless, in the world of paper, there seems to be an endless struggle between the letter and the law. According to legend, in the time of Henry VIII, paper was printed in sheets of 17 “x 22”, which was the largest mold format that paper mills could carry. These large leaves were known as crazy hats with dimensions of 8.5 x 14 inches or 216 x 356 mm. In this way, faxes in letter and legal format can be printed with the correct paper size.

While many office workers know that the printer contains 8.5 x 11-inch paper, there is often a lot of 8.5 x 14-inch paper lying around as well. They don`t fit easily into standard files, are difficult to copy or scan, and can be a real mess if stuck in a press, but lawyers still need them. Of course, I am referring to an 8″ x 14″ legal document. Thus, standard and legal paper formats seem to have appeared almost by accident, and it seems that legal paper will continue to be with us for the foreseeable future. 5. Press ◄ or ► to display the paper size options. Press Brief, A4, Legal, Executive, A5, A5L, A6, B5, B6, Folio or All. Open your favorite image editing software.

Something like Photoshop or GIMP would be perfect, but any software that allows you to scale, rotate, cut, and paste parts of an image works well. Create a new blank image file and select the Paper in Legal Format option if it appears. If it doesn`t appear, you can set the size yourself to 8.5 x 14 inches or 2,250 x 3,900 pixels. Regardless of history, all standard paper sizes in the United States date back to the Committee to Simplify Paper Sizes, founded in 1921 at the Bureau of Standards. .
